In my kitchen October

October? Already? How did that happen so quickly!! Time for in my kitchen...

In my kitchen...

...inspired by my recent trip to Bourgogne, there is a light, dry and refreshing French mousseux. I bought the mousseux from Bacchus Fine Food and Wine in Balmain, Sydney. While we were browsing in the store, Kristen the owner, offered us a tasting - I couldn't resist buying a bottle. If you happen to be in the area - stop by. They have a wonderful array of European wines, cheeses...and more!

In my kitchen...

There are dark, glossy eggplants. These were the key ingredient in my garlicky, intense tomato flavoured moussaka. To make the moussaka less oily, the eggplants were slowly baked - not fried. Frying is the more traditional method - but it often creates an overabundance of olive oil - given that the eggplants are such fantastic spounges. I also used the eggplants in a Provençal inspired tian, which included tomatoes, peppers, courgettes, white onions, wild Greek rigani and bay leaves.

In my kitchen...

...is a hortopita fresh from my mother-in-law's kitchen. Ma makes her own pastry, which is light, crisp and crunchy. The pie is filled with lots of wild greens from her garden. It offered little hints of Spring, as the flavour of mint hit my tastedbuds mixed with tangy, salty Greek feta...

In my kitchen...

Is (the very charming and charismatic) Olivier Magny's book, Stuff Parisians Like. Magny is a French Sommelier who opened, O Chateau, a wine bar and wine tasting school in the heart of Paris. I had read Magny's book shortly before our recent trip - it offered very witty observations on the everyday life of Parisians. I thoroughly enjoyed it and had to join in one of his wine tastings at O Chateau - plus a little champagne cruise down the Seine. If you find yourself in Paris - I highly recommend a visit. The wine tasting lesson and cruise were hugely informative and entertaining- and the wines and champagne were divine!! Olivier's new TV program, The Grape Escape airs on SBS at 7pm on Oct 6. I can't wait - hence why I'm reading the book again.

In my kitchen...

There is a delicious box of handmade chocolates - a very thoughtful hostess gift offered to Mr K and I after we hosted a relaxed lunch for friends and family. The chocolates come from Nina's, a small store in the southern suburb of Gymea. They are absolutley heavenly...

In my kitchen is hosted every month by the wonderful Celia, of Fig Jam and Lime Cordial. If you haven't visited Celia's blog yet - you must! Not only will you get a glimpse into Celia's kitchen - but those of bloggers from Australia and beyond...enjoy!
